RAEng Engineering Hotspots

To celebrate #NationalEngineeringDay, the Royal Academy of Engineering has released a UK map of Engineering Hotspots. The map is a snapshot of the UK showing the percentage of the regional population employed in engineering, the number of engineering businesses in each region, and engineering’s economic contribution. Some highlights include: 

  • More than 8.1 million people – 26% of UK workers – are part of the nation’s engineering economy
  • The UK has 729,000 engineering businesses, representing 13% of UK businesses
  • The engineering profession generates an estimated £645bn gross value added (GVA) to the UK’s economy annually – equivalent to 32% of the country’s economic output.
