Past events


The section is involved in a variety of events. Our thanks are sent to all of the organisations that support the activities to encourage engagement in the area of Measurement, Control and Automation in the Central North West area. 

Technical Talks:

The section runs a series of technical talks each year, with usually a program of 8 to 10 events per year.

The course program aims to be varied in content throughout the year.

Topics have included:

  • Cyber security
  • Functional Safety
  • ATEX
  • Instrumentation advances
  • Process Connections
  • 3D printing and component manufacturing
  • User applications – measurement and control impact in decommissioning, remote monitoring and other applications
  • Digitalisation strategies
  • De-carbonisation of facilities and the considerations of the measurement and control aspects

University Engagement:

Manchester University - The section regularly participates in the Manchester University ‘buggy race’ working with Sella Controls to offer prizes to the best team. Sella controls and the section provide personnel to assist in the judging activities.

Liverpool John Moores University – The section supports the work of the university and has provided technical lectures during the program in partnership with local companies. Each year students are awarded prizes for the best project.

CHAIN – The section has supported the CHAIN program of events with technical lectures to undergraduates. The Manchester event has been well attended in the past and the program aims to share the wide variety of Institutes and promotes professional registration. Social Events

Annual Dinner – The section successfully runs an annual dinner each October. The dinner attracts around 300 participants each year and we are very grateful for the companies who support the dinner each year.  The supporting companies from 2021 are:

 

Golf Day – In 2019 the section ran their first Golf Day for some time. The event was kindly sponsored by HTS Group and a great day was had by all. The repeat of the event is hoped once the COVID restrictions are fully eased.
