UID:335 DESCRIPTION:InstMC Learning and Engagement Talks Programme\n\nContaminated Land: Is Redevelopment Sustainable in the Future?\n\nTalk synopsis\n\nThe UK has a legacy of industrial contamination, which can pose a risk to the population and the environment. Remediation of such sites is most often undertaken through the Planning process, which requires contamination issues to be assessed and addressed.\n\nHowever, is redevelopment of brownfield land sustainable such that it “protects the natural resources for the benefit of future generations”.\n\nThis presentation raises some questions and ‘food for thought’…in developing contaminated land, can we get the sustainability balance right in the light of climate change and the drive to Carbon Net Zero and the need for biodiversity?\n\nAbout the speaker\n\nJo Strange MEng, CEng, CEnv, FICE, FWES, MIEnvSci, SiLC, QP, SQP\n\nICE Health and Safety Register (Advanced)\n\nJo is a chartered civil engineer and environmentalist with over thirty years of experience in civil and environmental engineering in the employment of major multi-disciplinary consultancies and most recently a specialist geotechnical and geo-environmental consultancy, CGL, with whom she is a Technical Director.\n\nShe has responsibility for SHEQ ‘compliance’ across the company and is involved in the planning, management, design, specification, implementation and interpretation of site investigations/ assessments and remediation for a wide variety of ‘brown field’ projects, including risk assessment and negotiating with and for regulators.\n\nJo also specialises in developing waste management solutions for ground works and she is a registered QP/SQP with CL:AIRE as well as a registered environmental auditor with IEMA. Her goal is to provide technically correct, commercially acceptable, practical and cost effective, integrated solutions to all types of contamination/ waste problems associated with development and construction sites.\n\nOnline eventWednesday 08 March, 1 - 2pmTicket holders will need Teams to access this eventPlease email jane.chandler@instmc.org if you have any queries DTSTART:20230308T130000Z DTEND:20230308T140000Z END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
