Large industrial plants and infrastructure installations are susceptible to malicious cyber attack, and a significant number of InstMC members work in DCS and SCADA environments where this risk is recognised. The cyber security SIG provides a forum for exchanging best practice and keeping its members updated with current information in the area of operational cyber security.
The Cyber security SIG is a new Group, and its executive is composed of a small number of expert academic and industrial practitioners. We welcome interested InstMC members to join the SIG while we are still at this early stage of evolution: it will greatly help us to understand the profile of our constituency. As interest and membership grows, we will develop a regular newsletter and social media communications forums.
One of our main aims is disseminating best practice and current information. When we are aware of specific vulnerabilities and related risks, we will organise information and training events directed at these areas.
The Group is also interested in defining a specification of competence for operational cyber security professionals, and introducing a register of engineers and scientists who have been accredited to this level.
InstMC is a member of the Alliance of cyber security professionals which brings together most of professional bodies in the UK working in this area.
